Many teams from different clubs across the Lehigh Valley continually seek higher level play and participate in leagues such as Region One, Colonial, PAGS, MAPS, and Delco.

In most cases, the decision to do so results from having a group of advanced players who naturally need challenging opportunities to keep improving their play. However, in many cases, the pursuit of better players by clubs or individual players seeking such opportunities creates an environment in which players continually migrate from one team to another.

Conversely, many players who are not ready for higher-level play get little time on the field and may ultimately be forced off the team. We feel such an environment is not always in the players’ best interest, particularly at the younger age groups (U11 – U15) during which physical and psychological development is still taking place. Frequent ‘team-hopping or being ‘promoted’ or ‘demoted’ away from a team of school friends removes the nurturing stability many players need to fully realize their early potential. Yet, at the same time, it is important for the above-average player to be in a challenging situation surrounded by other players of equal or higher talent.

The AC Perugia USL Super Y program is an alternative in which advanced players can train and compete on a team of their peers while remaining with their respective club teams to compete as they normally do in the spring and fall. This way, advanced players develop further with their peers, yet continue to make the significant contributions valued by their club teams.

The USL stands as the sole provider of a tiered system of premier soccer for all genders in North American, offering professional soccer at the First and Second Division levels, pre-professional play with the PDL and W-League, national level amateur Super 20 league and the premier youth Super Y-League.

There are many good trainers and coaches in the Lehigh Valley area. We believe together we can all maintain our unique club identities and also allow the best players an opportunity to play together during the Super Y-League seasonal months, and return to their clubs as much-improved players.

Please read about the Super Y-league and our program in our information book entitled,

“Time to Play” available at: www.acperugiausa.com. If you have any questions, or need additional information, please feel free to contact me at steve@acperugiusa.com or by calling 484-239-1761.

 Pre-SYL Program

SYL U12 Pre-SYL Training Teams

The Perugia Grifos have developed the Pre-SYL program aimed at providing the top area U11 (Grifoni), U12 youth soccer players with a glimpse of the USL SYL experience. Using SYL staff trainers and by bringing the areas most promising talent together in an environment of good fundamental technically training and involvement with other regional USL SYL clubs, the Pre-SYL program looks to prepare teams for the 2011 SYL season. Players will be observed in a training environment and friendly match play during the 2010 summer months giving SYL staff the ability to monitor players individual technical and tactical abilities.

The United Soccer league is home to North American professional soccer as well as many of the top clubs in the United States. From the First Division of men's soccer, the W-league and affiliations with the MLS and WPS, to the Super Y-League, the USL stands for a tradition of excellence and the best soccer leagues in the country.

Many benefits exist in the Super Y-League, sanctioned by US Soccer in providing a professionally run game day atmosphere, as well as a vast scouting network for the United States Olympic Development National program.

Players will be offered training spots on a rolling basis. The intent of the program is not to turn players away, since the typical try-out environment does not fully allow players to reach a comfort zone and express their true abilities. The Pre-SYL program will provide about 20 sessions, friendly matches, and  friendly tournament weekend.
